Dublin Street Art Photographed Using A Sony NEX-VG10

Infomatique obtained a new camera just before Christmas (Sony NEX-VG10E) but due to severe weather conditions did not get a chance to use it until this week. The VG10E is basically a camcorder with interchangeable lenses and it is equally suitable for use as a Digital Stills Camera or as a Video Camera. Many reviewers claim that it is over priced but I don’t agree. The only thing that I dislike about this camera is the terrible User Interface (almost the same as the NEX-5).

Pentax Canada was good enough to let us spend an afternoon with their brand new Pentax Q camera system. The Camera Store’s Chris Niccolls took a look at the images and video this camera could produce and we looked at the lens lineup for this quirky little camera.
Billed as a “Lo-fi Micro 4/3 Camera Lens; A manual focus lens to give your digital photos creative edge” By Photojojo, this cheap manual focus lens hits the “fast 50″ mark on a Micro Four Thirds camera like the Olympus PEN E-P3, at f/1.4 its soft bokeh, vignetting, lens flares, low contrast, and very shallow depth of field and near tilt-shift photo effect make it worthy of a look for Photographers looking to step out of “the box”. 25mm lens with an aperture range of f/1.4 to f/16 Manual focus Two pieces: lens and C mount adapter Focuses down to 0.3 meters Lens length is 4cm; weighs 300g 37mm diameter 25mm focal length which is like having a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera Works with all Olympus and Panasonic Micro 4/3 Cameras; (does not work with the Sony NEX, the slightly larger sensor in the NEX cameras isn’t covered by the image circle of this lens) NOTE: At the time of production of this review the specific Lens kit shown isn’t available on Photojojo’s website, It was a “subscribers only special offer” when I ordered it, I don’t know when, or if, it’ll become generally available on their main site, but past popular “subscriber only specials” have usually become standard stock… Don’t ask me when, or if they’ll be available, I have NO CLUE, ask the folks Photojojo.com OR… there are lots of different C-mount lenses around many of them can he had quite cheaply on ebay and specialist camera stores / websites, same goes for the adaptors to use them on non C-mount cameras.

The VG10E is basically a camcorder with interchangeable lenses and it is equally suitable for use as a Digital Stills Camera or as a Video Camera. Many reviewers claim that it is over priced but I wear’t agree. The only thing that I dislike about this camera is the terrible User Interface (almost the same as the NEX-5).

What kind of camera can you buy with PHP 15000 anyway? A nice, shiny point & shoot; a halfway-decent megazoom bridge camera; or even an enthusiast compact like the Canon S95 or Panasonic LX5 if you look hard enough. But wait, what about an Interchangeable Lens Compact? These are those DSLR-quality shooters that pack a punch but also promise great portability. They’re expensive, you say? Well not anymore. We bought this Olympus E-PL1 micro 4/3 ILC (with 14-42 kit) for only PHP 15000 — and we’re damn happy about it. What you have right here is a large sensor 12MP camera with interchangeable lenses, pop-up flash, hotshoe mount, scene modes, art filters, 2.7″ 230k dot live view display, and more bells and whistles to make a consumer DSLR-owner excited. This is the cheapest ILC you can get out there, but has also been proven to deliver some of the best quality images against it’s peers. And as DSLR owners ourselves, we love the living bajeezus out of it. So let’s not fret: you can check out our video unboxing of this amazing camera right here! You can get your own Olympus E-PL1 from DBGadgets here: dbgadgets.multiply.com For more on cameras and other gadgets, check out our website! www.thetechnoclast.com Thanks for watching!
